When was C.S. Lewis born?
Answer
29 November 1898
Answer
29 November 1898
C.S. Lewis was born on 29 November 1898.
His birthplace was Belfast, Ireland, where his father, Albert James Lewis, worked as a solicitor and his mother, Florence Augusta Lewis, was the daughter of a Church of Ireland priest. Lewis had an older brother, Warren, who became known as Warnie.
Lewis grew up in a Protestant household and developed a strong interest in mythology, literature, and invented worlds. His childhood experiences and reading later influenced both his scholarship and his fiction. He attended several schools before serving in the First World War and then studying at Oxford.
A common mix-up is to confuse Lewis’s birth date with the date of his death, 22 November 1963. Lewis died on the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, although the news received little attention because of that larger event.
