When did Bob Marley give his final concert, at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh?

The story behind the answer

Bob Marley gave his final concert at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh on 23 September 1980.

The performance came during the Uprising Tour, which supported the album Uprising. Marley and the Wailers had been touring internationally, but his health had deteriorated after melanoma was discovered in his toe and later spread.

The Pittsburgh concert is therefore remembered as the final live performance of Marley’s career. It was not a planned farewell show; the significance became clear only after his illness prevented further touring.

A common mix-up is placing the final concert in Jamaica or in Europe, because Marley had major performances in both regions. The final show was instead in the United States, at the Stanley Theater, now known as the Benedum Center.
