What year was the song "Brighton Rock" released?

The story behind the answer

Queen’s song "Brighton Rock" was released in 1974.

The track first appeared as the opening song on Sheer Heart Attack, Queen’s third studio album, which was released in 1974. Written by Brian May, it tells a brief story about two young people, Jenny and Jimmy, who meet during a holiday in Brighton. The song’s setting gives it a distinctly British seaside atmosphere, while its arrangement quickly expands into one of May’s most celebrated guitar showcases.

May had written the song before Queen II was completed, but the band did not have enough time to record it for that album. Elements of its extended guitar passage evolved from the earlier Queen song "Son and Daughter," making the recording part of a longer development in May’s live and studio work.

The studio version is notable for a guitar solo lasting more than three minutes. The song later gained a new generation of listeners after appearing prominently in Edgar Wright’s 2017 film Baby Driver. The dates 1973, 1975, and 1976 are plausible distractions because they surround important Queen releases, but the song itself belongs to 1974.
