What year was The Beatles' first album released?

The Beatles' first album was released in 1963. Titled Please Please Me, it arrived in the United Kingdom on March 22, 1963, on Parlophone.

The album was recorded quickly to capture the energy of the Beatles' live performances. Ten of its fourteen tracks were recorded during a single marathon session on February 11, 1963, at EMI Studios in London. The remaining songs had already been recorded for earlier singles. Producer George Martin wanted an album that would feel like a Beatles club show transferred to record.

Please Please Me included original Lennon–McCartney songs such as “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Love Me Do,” along with covers the group had performed onstage. John Lennon's vocal on “Twist and Shout” became especially famous; it was recorded last because the demanding performance could damage his already tired voice.

A common mix-up comes from international release dates. The album's British debut was in 1963, but the United States received different Beatles releases before Capitol issued Please Please Me there in 1987. Those variations do not change the year of the original first-album release.
