What year was The Beatles' album "Magical Mystery Tour" released?

The story behind the answer

The Beatles’ album Magical Mystery Tour was released in 1967.

The title refers both to the Beatles’ soundtrack project and to the experimental television film that aired in the United Kingdom later that year. The record had different formats in different markets: Britain received the songs as a six-track double EP on December 8, while the United States received a full-length LP on November 27 with five additional songs from 1967 singles.

Those added tracks included “Penny Lane,” “All You Need Is Love,” “Baby, You’re a Rich Man,” “Hello, Goodbye,” and “I Am the Walrus.” This regional difference is why the release is sometimes described as an EP, a soundtrack, or an album.

The project emerged during the Beatles’ psychedelic period, after Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Although the television film was poorly received, the record became an enduring part of the band’s catalog. In 1987, EMI standardized the American-style LP configuration for the worldwide compact-disc release.
