Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was released in 2009.
It is the third main film in the Ice Age franchise and was directed by Carlos Saldanha. The story shifts much of the action into a concealed underground world where dinosaurs still live. Sid becomes involved with dinosaur eggs, prompting the herd to enter this unfamiliar environment.
The film adds several major elements to the series, including Buck, a daring weasel voiced by Simon Pegg, and a more extensive dinosaur setting. It also develops Manny and Ellie’s relationship as they prepare for the birth of their child.
The movie’s premise is deliberately fantastical. Non-avian dinosaurs disappeared about 66 million years ago, while woolly mammoths lived much later, during the Pleistocene. Their coexistence in the film is therefore a fictional crossover designed for adventure and comedy.
