What year was Fast Five released?
Answer
2011
Answer
2011
Fast Five was released in 2011. Directed by Justin Lin, it is the fifth installment in the Fast & Furious film series and follows Dominic Toretto, Brian O’Conner, and their allies as they plan a major heist in Rio de Janeiro.
The film premiered in Rio de Janeiro on April 15, 2011, before its United States theatrical release on April 29. Its story marked a major change in the franchise’s direction. Earlier entries focused heavily on illegal street racing, while Fast Five shifted toward ensemble action and an elaborate robbery involving a large vault and corrupt businessman Hernan Reyes.
Fast Five also introduced Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs as a major character. The film’s success helped turn the series into a global action franchise and led directly to Fast & Furious 6 in 2013. Viewers sometimes confuse its year with Fast & Furious, released in 2009, or Fast & Furious 6, released in 2013. The title “Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist” was also used in some international markets, but it refers to the same 2011 film.
