America's 250th anniversary, known as the United States Semiquincentennial, falls in 2026.
The anniversary counts 250 years from 1776, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. The term semiquincentennial combines Latin-derived roots meaning half of 500, or 250.
The observance is commonly branded America250. It is intended to commemorate the nation's founding, reflect on its history, and encourage civic participation across the United States.
The anniversary is sometimes confused with Constitution-related milestones, but 2026 specifically marks 250 years since independence was declared, not 250 years since the Constitution was signed.
