Pixar’s Cars on the Road premiered on Disney+ in 2022.
The animated series follows Lightning McQueen and Mater on a road trip across the United States. It expands the Cars world beyond the feature films and places the two friends in a sequence of different comic adventures.
Cars on the Road debuted on September 8, 2022, a date promoted as Disney+ Day. The series contains nine episodes, each built around a different stop or situation during the journey. The episodes use varied visual and story ideas, including racing, prehistoric imagery, and ghost-story elements.
Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy returned as the voices of McQueen and Mater. The series was created by Steve Purcell, who had also worked on Pixar projects including Brave and the original Cars short-film universe.
