What year did George Harrison die?

The story behind the answer

George Harrison died in 2001. The Beatles’ lead guitarist died on November 29, 2001, in Los Angeles at age 58 after a long battle with cancer.

Harrison was born in Liverpool on February 25, 1943, and joined the Beatles while still a teenager. Although John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote most of the group’s early hits, Harrison became an important songwriter in his own right, contributing classics such as “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Something,” and “Here Comes the Sun.”

After the Beatles broke up in 1970, he continued as a solo artist and released the acclaimed triple album All Things Must Pass. He also helped organize the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh, one of the first major benefit concerts featuring globally famous rock musicians.

Harrison’s death is sometimes confused with that of other former Beatles because John Lennon died much earlier, in 1980, while Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr survived him. Harrison’s final studio album, Brainwashed, was completed with help from his son Dhani and released posthumously in 2002.
