What year did Coco Chanel die?
Answer
1971
Answer
1971
Coco Chanel died in 1971. Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel died on 10 January 1971, aged 87, at the Hôtel Ritz in Paris, where she had lived for more than three decades.
Chanel had founded the fashion house that bore her name and helped make sporty, practical clothing fashionable for women after World War I. Her influence extended from couture and the little black dress to handbags, jewelry and perfume, especially Chanel No. 5.
Her death date is sometimes confused with the year she returned to couture. Chanel’s Paris fashion house had closed in 1939 at the outbreak of World War II, but she returned to fashion in 1954 after years spent largely in Switzerland. She was buried in Lausanne, Switzerland, following a funeral at the Église de la Madeleine in Paris.
