What year did Bob Dylan release his album "Infidels"?

The story behind the answer

Bob Dylan released his album “Infidels” in 1983.

The album arrived on October 27, 1983, as Dylan’s 22nd studio album, issued by Columbia Records. It followed a period in which he had released three explicitly Christian albums, and “Infidels” marked a return to more secular songwriting, although religious imagery remained part of his work.

Dylan co-produced the record with Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, whose polished guitar work helped shape the album’s sound. The sessions took place in New York in April and May 1983. Songs such as “Jokerman,” “Sweetheart Like You,” and “Neighborhood Bully” became especially associated with the release.

A common mix-up is confusing the album’s release year with the years of nearby Dylan albums: “Shot of Love” came out in 1981, while “Real Live” followed in 1984. Another famous recording from the sessions, “Blind Willie McTell,” was left off the original album and released years later on The Bootleg Series, adding to the album’s enduring interest among fans.
