The working title of Christopher Nolan’s 2026 film The Odyssey was “Charlie’s Tale.”
A working title is a temporary name used during development and filming, often to keep a production discreet or simplify logistical paperwork. Nolan’s film was produced under this title while its story and cast were kept unusually secretive.
The production’s secrecy led to widespread speculation before Universal Pictures officially announced the film as The Odyssey in December 2024. Rumors suggested that Nolan might be making a vampire period film, a reboot of Blue Thunder, or an adaptation of the television series The Prisoner. These theories were later debunked.
The finished film is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows Odysseus on his journey home after the Trojan War. “Charlie’s Tale” was therefore not the title used for release, marketing, or the film’s official credits.
