What was the venue for the 'Thrilla in Manila'?

The bout was the third and final meeting between Muhammad Ali and former champion Joe Frazier. It was held on October 1, 1975, in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines, at the arena now known as the Araneta Coliseum. For the event, the venue was temporarily renamed the Philippine Coliseum.

Ali won when Frazier’s corner stopped the fight after the fourteenth round. Frazier’s chief second, Eddie Futch, made the decision because Frazier was exhausted and suffering severe punishment. Ali later said the contest came close to killing him, while Frazier’s performance became part of boxing legend.

The fight’s nickname came from Ali’s rhyming boast that it would be “a killa and a thrilla and a chilla” in Manila. The arena was also significant because it later inspired Ali Mall, a shopping centre named after the boxer.
