What was the title of the movie Madonna directed?

The story behind the answer

What was the title of the movie Madonna directed? It was “Filth and Wisdom.” Released in 2008, the British comedy-drama was Madonna’s feature-film directorial debut. She also co-wrote the film, which was produced through her company Semtex Films.

The story follows A.K., a Ukrainian immigrant living in London and pursuing a career as a rock musician. To finance his ambitions, he works as a cross-dressing dominatrix. His roommates include Holly, a dancer and stripper, and Juliette, a pharmacy assistant who dreams of helping children in Africa. Eugene Hütz, lead singer of Gogol Bordello, played A.K., and the band also contributed music to the film.

“Filth and Wisdom” premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 13, 2008, before receiving a limited theatrical and on-demand release in October. It is sometimes confused with Madonna’s later film “W.E.”, but that 2011 historical drama was a separate directorial project. “Filth and Wisdom” remains the correct title for her first feature as director.
