The first album PJ Harvey released was "Dry."
Released on March 30, 1992, Dry was PJ Harvey's debut studio album and her first full-length record. It followed the early singles "Dress" and "Sheela-Na-Gig," which introduced listeners to her intense combination of blues, alternative rock, abrasive guitar, and emotionally forceful vocals.
The album was made by the original PJ Harvey Trio: Harvey on vocals and guitar, Rob Ellis on drums, and Ian Olliver on bass, with Steve Vaughan later taking over bass duties. Recording took place at The Icehouse, a local studio in Yeovil, England, during late 1991.
A frequent source of confusion is the distinction between Dry and Rid of Me. Rid of Me was Harvey's next album, released in 1993, and her first for a major label after Island Records signed the trio. Dry was initially issued in both standard and limited editions; some early copies included demo recordings, later collected as Dry – Demos.
