What was the title of The Clash’s second studio album, released in 1978?

The story behind the answer

The Clash’s second studio album, released in 1978, was titled Give ’Em Enough Rope.

CBS Records released the album in the United Kingdom on November 10, 1978. It followed the band’s 1977 debut album, The Clash, and showed the group expanding its arrangements while retaining its politically charged punk identity.

American producer Sandy Pearlman produced the record. He was known for his work with Blue Öyster Cult, and his production gave the album a more polished sound than the band’s raw first LP. The album includes “Tommy Gun” and “English Civil War.”

London Calling came later, in 1979, while Sandinista! and Combat Rock were released in the 1980s. Those titles are therefore frequent but incorrect alternatives when identifying The Clash’s second album.
