Answer
Marquee Moon
Answer
Marquee Moon
Television’s debut studio album, released in 1977, was titled Marquee Moon.
Marquee Moon appeared on 8 February 1977 through Elektra Records. The New York band’s lineup featured Tom Verlaine, Richard Lloyd, Richard Hell and Billy Ficca during its early period, although Fred Smith replaced Hell before the album was recorded.
The album became known for its unusually intricate guitar interplay, extended solos and jazz-influenced structures. The title track runs for more than ten minutes, far longer than the short songs commonly associated with first-wave punk.
Marquee Moon is frequently classified as punk, art punk or proto-post-punk, but Television’s music does not fit a single narrow label. The group developed at CBGB, and its debut is often discussed alongside records by Patti Smith, Talking Heads and the Ramones as a landmark of the early New York scene.
