What was the title of Slick Rick’s 1988 debut studio album?

Slick Rick’s 1988 debut studio album was titled The Great Adventures.

Released by Def Jam Recordings, the album introduced listeners to Slick Rick’s distinctive storytelling, conversational delivery, and playful character voices. It reached number 31 on the Billboard 200 and number 8 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

The album includes “Children’s Story,” “Hey Young World,” and “Teenage Love,” songs that helped establish Slick Rick as one of hip hop’s most influential narrative rappers. “Children’s Story” became particularly important because later artists repeatedly sampled and reinterpreted it.

A common mix-up is confusing the album with Slick Rick’s nickname, “The Ruler,” or with the 1991 album The Ruler’s Back. The Great Adventures is his debut, while The Ruler’s Back was his second studio album.
