R.E.M.’s 1991 album that includes “Losing My Religion” is titled Out of Time.
Out of Time was R.E.M.’s seventh studio album and was released in March 1991. It became the band’s first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200, turning R.E.M. from a highly respected college-rock group into an international mainstream act.
“Losing My Religion” was the album’s biggest single and featured Peter Buck’s prominent mandolin part. Other tracks include “Shiny Happy People,” “Near Wild Heaven,” and “Radio Song.” Kate Pierson of the B-52’s sang on “Shiny Happy People,” while KRS-One appeared on “Radio Song.”
Out of Time is often confused with Automatic for the People because both albums were released during R.E.M.’s peak period. Automatic for the People followed in 1992 and contains “Everybody Hurts,” but “Losing My Religion” belongs to Out of Time.
