What was the title of Georgia O'Keeffe's 1932 auction-record flower painting?

The story behind the answer

The title of Georgia O'Keeffe's 1932 auction-record flower painting is Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1. It presents a single large white flower with a dark, nearly black surrounding field.

O'Keeffe painted the work in a period when flowers were among her most recognizable subjects. Her close-up compositions transformed familiar natural forms into nearly abstract arrangements of curves, folds, and contrasting colors.

The painting gained renewed attention when it was sold at Sotheby's in 2014 for $44.4 million. That sale made it the most expensive work by a female artist sold at auction up to that point. Alice Walton acquired it for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Other O'Keeffe flower titles can be confusing because they also use color and plant names. Red Poppy and Black Iris III are different paintings, while Ram's Head, White Hollyhock-Hills combines a bone, flower, and landscape rather than showing the jimson weed flower alone.
