Dr. Dre’s 1999 studio album, his first released after The Chronic, was 2001.
The album was released on November 16, 1999, through Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. Although its official title is 2001, it was also widely called The Chronic 2001, a name that connected it to Dre’s 1992 debut. Dre worked with several producers and writers, including Mel-Man, Scott Storch, and rapper Eminem.
The record produced major singles such as “Still D.R.E.,” “Forgot About Dre,” and “The Next Episode.” It reached number two on the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified sextuple platinum in the United States. A common mistake is treating 2001 as a direct title of The Chronic; the albums are separate releases, with 2001 serving as Dre’s second studio album and a major late-1990s comeback.
