Beyoncé’s 2013 surprise self-titled studio album was titled Beyoncé.
The album was released without a traditional advance publicity campaign on December 13, 2013. It appeared on the iTunes Store with little warning and was described as a visual album because each song was accompanied by a music video.
Beyoncé contains tracks such as “Drunk in Love,” “Partition,” and “Flawless.” Jay-Z appears on “Drunk in Love,” while the album also includes collaborations with artists including Drake and Frank Ocean.
The release changed expectations for major pop albums by emphasizing surprise, digital distribution, and connected visual storytelling. It is separate from Lemonade, which followed in 2016, and Renaissance, released in 2022.
