What was the real name of the outlaw known as the Sundance Kid?
Answer
Harry Longabaugh
Answer
Harry Longabaugh
The outlaw known as the Sundance Kid was Harry Longabaugh.
Longabaugh was born in Mont Clare, Pennsylvania, in 1867. He acquired the nickname “Sundance Kid” after serving time in the Wyoming Territorial Prison at Sundance, Wyoming, for stealing a horse and a saddle in 1887.
He later joined Robert Leroy Parker, better known as Butch Cassidy, in the Wild Bunch. The two men became famous for robbing banks and trains across the American West. Longabaugh was also associated with Etta Place, who traveled with the pair.
A common mix-up is reversing the two aliases: Butch Cassidy was Robert Leroy Parker, while the Sundance Kid was Harry Longabaugh. Longabaugh and Parker eventually fled to South America. Their reported deaths in Bolivia in 1908 remain debated, although historians generally accept that they were killed there.
