Answer
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was the 1881 Arizona Territory event remembered as a roughly 30-second shootout between lawmen and outlaws.
The confrontation occurred on October 26, 1881, in Tombstone. On one side were Virgil Earp, Morgan Earp, Wyatt Earp, and Doc Holliday. Opposing them were Billy Clanton, Tom McLaury, and Frank McLaury, who were associated with a group often called the Cowboys.
The gunfight did not actually take place inside the O.K. Corral itself; it occurred in a narrow lot near Fremont Street. Three members of the Cowboys were killed, while Virgil, Morgan, and Holliday were wounded. Wyatt Earp escaped injury.
Later books, films, and television shows greatly expanded the event’s fame. The phrase “30-second gunfight” is a modern summary of a brief exchange, not a precise stopwatch measurement from the scene.
