Answer
The Quarrymen
Answer
The Quarrymen
The original name of the band that became The Beatles was The Quarrymen.
John Lennon formed the skiffle group in Liverpool in 1956, naming it after Quarry Bank High School, which he attended. The group’s first public performance took place at a garden fête in Woolton on 6 July 1957, where Lennon met Paul McCartney.
McCartney joined later that year, and George Harrison became a member in early 1958. The group experimented with names including Johnny and the Moondogs and the Silver Beetles before settling on The Beatles in 1960.
The Quarrymen name is sometimes confused with the Silver Beatles, but they refer to different stages in the group’s development. The Quarrymen’s history is important because it covers the band’s formative period before their Hamburg performances and worldwide fame.
