What was the original name of Beyoncé’s group Destiny’s Child?
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Answer
Girl’s Tyme
Beyoncé’s group was originally called Girl’s Tyme.
Girl’s Tyme was formed in Houston, Texas, in 1990, when Beyoncé and several other young performers were still children. The group competed on the television talent show Star Search in 1993, although it did not win.
The lineup changed repeatedly before the group became Destiny’s Child. Early members included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett, while the group’s management was handled by Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles.
The name Destiny’s Child came later, in 1996, as the group moved toward its professional recording career. This history is sometimes simplified by describing Destiny’s Child as having begun with its best-known quartet, but Girl’s Tyme was the earlier name used during the group’s formative years.
