What was the name of Thomas Edison’s first successful electric lamp demonstration site?

The story behind the answer

Thomas Edison’s first successful electric-lamp demonstration site was Menlo Park. In late 1879 and early 1880, Edison and his team demonstrated incandescent lamps there as part of a broader electric-lighting system.

The achievement depended on more than the glowing bulb. Edison worked on a durable filament, a high-resistance circuit, generators, conductors, switches, and meters. The system was designed to make electric light usable in homes and businesses rather than only in laboratory experiments.

Menlo Park became famous because reporters and visitors could see the experiments directly. The site’s reputation helped establish Edison as a leading inventor and made the phrase “Wizard of Menlo Park” widely associated with him.

Later demonstrations and commercial installations occurred elsewhere, including the Pearl Street station in New York City. Pearl Street was a power station, not Edison’s New Jersey laboratory demonstration site.
