What was the name of the traveling exhibit that toured the United States for the 1975–1976 Bicentennial?

The story behind the answer

The 1975–1976 American Bicentennial traveling exhibit was called the American Freedom Train.

The train carried historical artifacts and toured the country as part of the celebrations surrounding the 200th anniversary of American independence. It began its journey on April 1, 1975, in Wilmington, Delaware, and continued through the end of 1976.

The exhibit used 26 cars and was hauled by three restored steam locomotives at different stages of its route. Its collection included objects connected with American history, culture, science, and government. The train visited all 48 contiguous states and stopped in 138 cities.

The American Freedom Train is sometimes confused with the earlier Freedom Train of 1947–1949, which also displayed American historical documents and objects. The Bicentennial train was a separate project created specifically for the 1975–1976 anniversary period.
