What was the name of the state founded by Genghis Khan?

The story behind the answer

The state founded by Genghis Khan was the Mongol Empire. In 1206, Temüjin united many of the steppe’s competing Mongol and Turkic tribes and was proclaimed Genghis Khan, or Chinggis Khan. This political union created the foundation for the empire that would become the largest contiguous land empire in history.

The Mongol Empire expanded rapidly across Central Asia, China, the Middle East and Eastern Europe during the 13th century. Genghis Khan personally began campaigns against the Western Xia, Jin and Khwarezmian states, while later khans continued the conquests.

The answer is sometimes confused with the Yuan dynasty, the Ilkhanate or the Golden Horde. Those were later Mongol successor states or branches. Kublai Khan founded the Yuan dynasty in China, while the Ilkhanate and Golden Horde emerged after the empire was divided among Genghis Khan’s descendants.
