Falcon Heavy carried Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster into solar orbit in 2018.
SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy demonstration flight on February 6, 2018, from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center. The rocket carried a red Tesla Roadster as its dummy payload, with a spacesuit-wearing mannequin called Starman in the driver’s seat.
Falcon Heavy was built from three modified Falcon 9 first-stage cores, giving it 27 Merlin engines at liftoff. The two side boosters landed successfully, while the center core missed its drone-ship landing. The Roadster entered a heliocentric orbit that crosses the orbital paths of Earth and Mars; it was not sent to land on Mars.
