What was the name of the spacecraft used in SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission?
Answer
Crew Dragon Resilience
Answer
Crew Dragon Resilience
The spacecraft used in SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission was Crew Dragon Resilience.
Inspiration4 launched on September 15, 2021, carrying Jared Isaacman, Sian Proctor, Hayley Arceneaux, and Chris Sembroski. It was the first orbital spaceflight with an all-civilian crew, meaning none of the four passengers was a professional government astronaut assigned to the mission.
The Crew Dragon Resilience capsule had previously supported NASA’s Crew-1 mission before being refurbished for Inspiration4. For the private flight, SpaceX replaced the usual docking adapter with a large cupola window, giving the crew a broad view of Earth.
The name Resilience is easy to confuse with other Crew Dragon names. Endeavour flew Demo-2 and Crew-2, while Freedom flew Crew-4 and later missions. Inspiration4 flew in Resilience and spent roughly three days in orbit before splashing down.
