What was the name of the punk band fronted by Sid Vicious?

The story behind the answer

Sid Vicious was the bassist of the Sex Pistols, the influential English punk band formed in London in 1975. Born Simon John Ritchie, he joined the group in early 1977, replacing Glen Matlock. Although his time with the band was brief, his appearance and chaotic public persona made him one of punk’s most recognisable figures.

The original Sex Pistols lineup featured Johnny Rotten, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock. Vicious joined during the band’s most notorious period, shortly before the release of “God Save the Queen” and their only studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.

Vicious was not the band’s original bassist and was often criticised for limited musicianship; studio recordings frequently relied on other players. Even so, his image became closely associated with the group’s confrontational style. The Sex Pistols ended their initial run in 1978, and Vicious died in New York in 1979 at age 21. A common mistake is calling him the band’s singer: Johnny Rotten handled the lead vocals.
