What was the name of the punk band formed by Siouxsie Sioux?

The story behind the answer

The punk band formed by Siouxsie Sioux was Siouxsie and the Banshees. She co-founded the London group with bassist Steven Severin in 1976.

The band’s first performance was created almost spontaneously when a slot opened at the 100 Club Punk Festival in September 1976. Siouxsie and Severin agreed to perform even though they had no finished band, established line-up, or prepared songs. Guitarist Marco Pirroni and drummer Sid Vicious joined them for the one-off appearance, which centred on an extended version of “The Lord’s Prayer.”

The group continued after that debut, adding drummer Kenny Morris and guitarist John McKay. Their early sound grew out of punk but soon developed into something more experimental and atmospheric. Their 1978 debut album, The Scream, helped establish their distinctive post-punk identity.

The main potential confusion is with The Creatures, the later duo formed by Siouxsie and Banshees drummer Budgie. The Creatures were a separate project, whereas Siouxsie and the Banshees was her principal band, active from 1976 until 1996, with a short 2002 reunion.
