What was the name of the Oxford college where C.S. Lewis taught English literature?
Answer
Magdalen College
Answer
Magdalen College
C.S. Lewis taught English literature at Magdalen College, Oxford. He became a Fellow and tutor there in 1925 and remained associated with the college until 1954.
Magdalen College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. During his years there, Lewis taught medieval and Renaissance literature, worked on his own books, and participated in the literary discussion group known as the Inklings. The college’s grounds and surroundings also appear in accounts of his Oxford life.
Lewis later left Oxford for Cambridge University, where he became the first holder of the newly established Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature in 1954. That move does not mean he stopped being an Oxford scholar; Magdalen was the institution most closely connected with his long teaching career.
