What was the name of the New Mexico house Georgia O'Keeffe bought in 1945?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe bought the Abiquiú house in New Mexico in 1945.

The property was a ruined adobe house in the village of Abiquiú when O'Keeffe first saw it. She was especially drawn to a courtyard wall with a door, a subject she painted repeatedly. After years of searching for a suitable place, she acquired the property and had it restored with architect Juan Hamilton’s assistance.

The Abiquiú home became her principal winter residence and studio. Its courtyard, walls, black door, and surrounding landscape appear in numerous paintings and photographs. The house helped explain how architecture, memory, and landscape could merge in O'Keeffe’s work.

This property is distinct from Ghost Ranch, where O'Keeffe also lived and worked. Both locations are in New Mexico, but the Abiquiú house is the specific home she purchased in 1945. It is now preserved as a historic site and is associated with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
