What was the name of the giant Liberty Bell replica made for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial?
Answer
Bicentennial Bell
Answer
Bicentennial Bell
The giant Liberty Bell replica made for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial was called the Bicentennial Bell.
The replica was cast in 1976 at six times the size of the original Liberty Bell and weighed 12,000 pounds. Britain presented it to the United States through Queen Elizabeth II as a bicentennial gift.
The bell was associated with Philadelphia, the city where the original Liberty Bell had hung and where the Declaration of Independence was adopted. It was housed in the tower originally intended for the Liberty Bell at a former visitor center on South Third Street.
The Bicentennial Bell was not the historic Liberty Bell itself and should not be confused with replicas made for other cities. The original Liberty Bell remains known for its inscription from Leviticus and its famous crack.
