The freighter that reached the island in Lost was called the Kahana.
The Kahana appears during the third-season finale, “Through the Looking Glass,” when the survivors learn that the vessel is connected to people sent by Charles Widmore. Its arrival launches much of season four, as the survivors encounter the freighter’s crew and investigate why the ship was sent to the island.
The freighter’s personnel include Daniel Faraday, Miles Straume, Charlotte Staples Lewis, Frank Lapidus, and Naomi Dorrit. Their mission is presented as scientific or rescue-related, but the crew’s conflicting instructions and Widmore’s larger agenda create immediate uncertainty. The Kahana eventually becomes part of the escalating conflict between Widmore and Benjamin Linus.
The name is sometimes confused with the Black Rock, an earlier sailing ship that reached the island, or the Elizabeth, Desmond Hume’s sailboat. Those vessels belong to different periods of the show’s chronology.
