What was the name of the former Piston Cup champion who mentors Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars?

The story behind the answer

Doc Hudson is the former Piston Cup champion who mentors Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars.

Doc is a 1951 Hudson Hornet who once raced under the nickname “The Fabulous Hudson Hornet.” His racing career ended after a crash and an unsuccessful return to competition, after which he became the town doctor and judge in Radiator Springs.

When McQueen arrives in town, Doc initially dislikes the young car’s arrogance and tries to keep him away from racing. Their relationship changes as McQueen learns about Doc’s history and begins treating the residents of Radiator Springs with respect.

Doc’s English voice in the original Cars was provided by Paul Newman. The King is another former champion, but he is a Plymouth Superbird and a current competitor in the film’s final race. Smokey appears later in Cars 3.
