What was the name of the first LEGO programmable robotics kit for home users?
Answer
LEGO Mindstorms
Answer
LEGO Mindstorms
LEGO Mindstorms was the first LEGO programmable robotics kit for home users.
LEGO launched the original Mindstorms Robotics Invention System in 1998. The kit combined programmable electronic control with LEGO construction elements, motors and sensors, allowing users to build machines and write programs for them.
Its programmable brick was called the RCX. Users could connect the brick to a computer, create instructions and download those programs to a model. This made robotics accessible to children, students and hobbyists without requiring a conventional industrial robot.
LEGO Mindstorms grew from LEGO’s earlier collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later generations introduced newer controllers and programming systems, but LEGO Boost and LEGO WeDo are separate product lines. Mindstorms became especially influential in educational robotics and student competitions.
