What was the name of the first Formula E car generation used from 2014 to 2018?

The story behind the answer

The Spark-Renault SRT 01E was the first-generation Formula E car used from 2014 to 2018.

Formula E began its inaugural season in 2014–15 with a standardized electric single-seater. Spark Racing Technology built the chassis, while Renault supplied the electric powertrain partnership and other companies provided components such as the battery and electronics.

The first-generation car had a relatively short race range, so drivers changed cars during pit stops. Each driver started with two cars and switched to the second one during the race. This unusual arrangement was necessary because early battery technology could not complete a full race at the required power level.

The car was replaced by the second-generation Spark SRT05e for the 2018–19 season. Gen2 cars had enough energy capacity to complete races without a mid-race car change.
