What was the name of the first fast-food restaurant opened by In-N-Out Burger in 1948?
Answer
In-N-Out Burger
Answer
In-N-Out Burger
The first fast-food restaurant opened by In-N-Out Burger in 1948 was also named In-N-Out Burger.
Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first location in Baldwin Park, California, on October 22, 1948. It was a small drive-in restaurant designed around automobile service, reflecting the rapid growth of Southern California’s car culture after World War II.
The Snyders introduced an early two-way speaker system that allowed customers to order from their cars. This innovation helped distinguish the restaurant from older curb-service models in which carhops took orders at parked vehicles. In-N-Out later became known for a deliberately limited menu and for preparing food to order.
The company’s best-known hamburger, the Double-Double, was introduced later, in 1963. It is therefore incorrect to use “Double-Double” as the name of the original restaurant. The founding location was simply an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Baldwin Park.
