What was the name of the first band Peter Cetera played in?

The story behind the answer

The first band Peter Cetera played in was The Exceptions, a local rock group from Chicago. Cetera joined the band as a young musician and played bass while also developing as a singer and songwriter.

The Exceptions became an important part of Cetera’s early career. The group toured in the Midwest, released recordings, and gave him experience performing in clubs before he became internationally famous. Among his early recording projects was the five-song EP Rock ’N’ Roll Mass, made with The Exceptions. Cetera also received an early songwriting credit for the song “Come On Home.”

In late 1967, The Exceptions were booked at a Chicago club opposite a horn-driven group called The Big Thing. Cetera joined The Big Thing as its bassist and vocalist. That band soon became Chicago Transit Authority and then shortened its name to Chicago. Cetera later became one of Chicago’s principal singers and writers before leaving for a successful solo career in 1985.
