What was the name of the fictional airline whose plane crashed in Lost?

The story behind the answer

The fictional airline whose plane crashes in Lost is Oceanic Airlines. Oceanic Flight 815 is traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles when it breaks apart over the island, launching the series’ main story.

Oceanic Airlines is an invented company created for the show, not a real carrier operating the route in the story. The airline’s logo and branding appear repeatedly in flashbacks and later plotlines. Flight 815’s crash becomes the shared event that connects the main characters, many of whom had never met before boarding the aircraft.

The airline is sometimes mixed up with Ajira Airways, another fictional carrier introduced later in Lost. Ajira Flight 316 transports several characters back toward the island during the fifth season. Oceanic Flight 815, however, is the original crash flight and the source of the survivors’ name as the “Oceanic Six” after some characters leave the island.
