What was the name of the Fender guitar that was built for Kurt Cobain?

The story behind the answer

The Fender guitar built for Kurt Cobain was called the Jag-Stang. Its name combines the Jaguar and Mustang, the two Fender models that inspired its hybrid design.

Cobain proposed the concept to Fender by combining the visual ideas of a Jaguar and a Mustang. Fender then built two left-handed prototypes under the direction of Custom Shop master builder Larry L. Brooks. Cobain played one prototype and later worked with his guitar technician to make modifications.

The Jag-Stang used a short 24-inch scale, matching the scale length of Cobain's favored Fender Mustang. Although the guitar was closely associated with him, he did not use it extensively. His technician Earnie Bailey estimated that Cobain played it live only a handful of times, and it was not a major recording instrument for Nirvana.

Fender introduced the production model after Cobain's death, in 1996. The company later reissued it several times, including a 2021 edition. Another commonly confused detail is that the Jag-Stang was designed for Cobain, but the name refers to the Jaguar-Mustang hybrid rather than to Nirvana itself.
