The cable ship that recovered many bodies after the Titanic sinking was CS Mackay-Bennett. The Halifax-based vessel was sent by the White Star Line to search the North Atlantic for victims after the disaster on 15 April 1912.

CS Mackay-Bennett reached the wreck site on 20 April and recovered 306 bodies, more than any other vessel involved in the operation. Because it could not carry everyone safely, the crew embalmed and coffined some victims while burying others at sea.
