What was the name of the Apollo 13 command module?

The Apollo 13 command module was named Odyssey. It housed commander Jim Lovell, command module pilot Jack Swigert, and lunar module pilot Fred Haise during their 1970 flight toward the Moon.

Apollo spacecraft carried separate names for their command module and lunar module. Odyssey was the command-and-service module, while Aquarius was the lunar module. After an oxygen-tank explosion damaged the service module, the crew powered down Odyssey and used Aquarius as a temporary lifeboat during the return journey.

The names are often mixed up with other Apollo spacecraft. Columbia was Apollo 11’s command module, while Eagle was Apollo 11’s lunar module. Odyssey ultimately carried its crew safely back to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970, even though the mission never reached its planned lunar landing.
