The airline pilot who initially survived Oceanic Flight 815’s crash in Lost was Seth Norris.
Norris appears in the first season’s pilot episode. After the crash, he remains in the forward section of the aircraft and explains that the plane’s transceiver is useless because the survivors are far from the expected route. He later accompanies Jack, Kate, and Charlie to the cockpit wreckage.
The pilot is killed when the Smoke Monster attacks him in the cockpit. His death helps establish that the island contains dangers beyond the crash itself and becomes one of the earliest direct encounters with the creature.
Seth Norris is often confused with Frank Lapidus, another pilot connected to Lost. Lapidus pilots the freighter helicopter and later the Ajira Airways aircraft; he is not the pilot of Oceanic Flight 815.
