What was the name of the 1976 celebration that America250 will follow as the next major U.S. anniversary?

The story behind the answer

The 1976 celebration that America250 will follow was the United States Bicentennial.

The Bicentennial marked 200 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Its nationwide observances culminated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, during the presidency of Gerald Ford.

The celebration included parades, public ceremonies, educational programs, patriotic displays, and special United States currency designs. A red, white, and blue star logo appeared on government facilities, souvenirs, and postage stamps. Bicentennial quarters, half dollars, and dollars were minted with dual dates spanning 1776 and 1976.

The anniversary names are easy to mix up. Centennial means 100 years, sesquicentennial means 150, bicentennial means 200, semiquincentennial means 250, and tricentennial means 300. America250 is therefore the successor to the Bicentennial, not another name for it.
