What was the name of the 1975–76 train that toured all 48 contiguous U.S. states for the Bicentennial?

The story behind the answer

The 1975–76 train that toured all 48 contiguous U.S. states for the Bicentennial was the American Freedom Train.

The train was a traveling exhibition of American history and culture. It carried historical objects and displays in a specially assembled, patriotic red-white-and-blue train. Its tour began in Wilmington, Delaware, on April 1, 1975, before the main Bicentennial year.

The American Freedom Train is sometimes confused with the earlier Freedom Train of 1947–49. The earlier train also toured the United States, but the 1975–76 train was the one specifically associated with the Bicentennial and used a different name.

During its 21-month journey, the American Freedom Train visited all 48 contiguous states. More than seven million people visited it, making the mobile exhibition one of the most visible national projects connected with the 1976 commemoration.
